Best Sleeping Directions as per Vastu Shastra

In the Vedic Era, religion, spirituality, education, medicine, astrology, astronomy, occultism, and philosophy, were all interlinked and coexisted harmoniously with their boundaries projecting and supporting each other. The cosmic effect of the sun, wind direction, the earth’s magnetic field, and the overall impact of the cosmos on the ‘Earth’ were all taken into account while developing Vastu Shastra laws.

Importance of Vastu for Senior Citizens

Senior citizens usually face various health conditions that may influence their overall quality of life. They can make certain lifestyle modifications that will help them age healthily if they know of the most common health concerns associated with seniority. Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial for older persons and cannot be emphasized enough. Vastu is beneficial for seniors because it maintains a correct flow of natural components through the body and helps them benefit from nature’s blessings. Thus, sleeping in the correct position is also essential.

Vastu Explains the Importance of the Sleeping Direction

It is believed we are surrounded by both positive and negative energies.

According to Vastu, the direction in which our head is placed while sleeping is extremely important, as it can directly impact our physical and mental health, as explained below.

 South Direction

Sleeping with the head towards the South is considered ideal, as this way our body is aligned with the Earth’s magnetic field. This ensures positive vibrations for a restful and rejuvenating sleep, necessary for mind, body, and overall wellbeing. This direction is also considered the abode of Yama Deva and therefore associated with prosperity, happiness and harmony. It is the best, most optimum direction to sleep for seniors.

East Direction

As the sun rises from the East, it is considered the storehouse of positive power, healing energy, and regeneration. It boosts the intellect and enhances concentration and memory. Sleeping with the head towards the East provides restful sleep. Sleeping with head towards the east is advised for scholars, students, and people connected to academics.

West Direction

Sleeping with the head towards the West, considered a neutral direction, is beneficial to professionals and businessmen for fame and success. It is supposed to help get rid of negative energies but can be troublesome for some individuals, as it boosts aggression and restlessness.

North Direction

One should strictly avoid sleeping with the head towards the North direction, as it is associated with negative health effects. It is believed to strain the heart and brain as the blood flow gets affected due to a misaligned magnetic field. It can also cause neurological problems and sleep deprivation. A very significant point is that, in Hindu tradition, dead bodies are placed with heads towards the north before cremation, as it is the direction in which the soul leaves the body.

Sleeping is one of the most important activities of the human body. For a healthier existence, uninterrupted and tranquil sleep is essential. Vastu can help determine the optimal sleeping orientation in a variety of ways. Vastu aims to link the five natural elements of space, water, air, fire, and earth, along with magnetic fields and characteristics of various directions.
