Self-isolation due to COVID

Self-isolation can be a difficult period for anyone. We are social beings and staying away from family and friends can be a challenging time. Thus, it is important to have a routine when anyone is in self-isolation. If you are wondering what to do in self-isolation, here are a few tips for isolation at home the right way:

Expert Covid Care at Home

1.    Have a routine

When down with any disease, staying up and waking up late may seem tempting and much more comfortable. However, you must have a routine. If you used to wake up early to go to work, stick to that habit. It is one of the most tips for isolation at home. You must wake up early, leave the bed right after waking up, work out, freshen up, have your meals on time, and then go to bed on time. Have a schedule. Maintaining a routine will allow you to have a productive day even in isolation.

2.    Inculcate the habit of staying active

When an individual is COVID positive and in isolation at home, work out or exercise becomes all the more important. While staying isolated, away from the entire world, falling prey to a sedentary lifestyle is only natural. Here, staying physically active is essential for good physical and mental health. You can try out simple exercises that would require less physical effort on your part. Or, you can go for meditation and some simple yoga asanas. You can even try breathing exercises that are recommended by physicians during COVID. Staying active is one of the most important tips while self-isolating. The whole idea is to keep the body and mind functional throughout the isolation period.

3.    Stay connected

This should be the thumb rule of isolation at home to stay connected. Even if you cannot meet your friends and are staying away from your family, you must stay in touch with them. There are numerous ways of doing it. You can call, FaceTime, text, video call them, etc. Even though virtually, staying connected has become one of the paramount measures to stay in the right state of mind when in self-isolation.

4.    Learn something new

What could be a better opportunity to learn something new? In self-isolation, you will have plenty of time and space to learn something new such as a musical instrument, sketching, pottery, etc. The options are quite a lot, you can choose anything that piques your interest. Learning something in self-isolation is one of the top tips.

5.    Finish that book/drama series

If you are in self-isolation and spending most of your time in your room, all by yourself, then is the right time you finish the book that you have always wanted to read or maybe watch the drama that you could not because of time constraints. If an individual is down with COVID and isolating from the family, indulging in entertaining activities can help in staying joyful and cheery which is essential when you are self-isolating.

6.    Eat good

One of the best tips for isolation at home is eating well. Though there could be dietary restrictions, make sure that you do not resort to eating junk and fast food. Have proper meals, snack on healthy food items such as nuts, fruits, and green veggies. You can even consult a dietician for a proper diet plan. When you have limited means of physical activity during your self-isolation period, you must substitute it with a healthy diet to stay in the best of your health.

7.    Follow the self-isolation guidelines

When down with COVID, staying mindful of your and other’s safety is essential. Now, certain self-isolation guidelines in India are mandatory to be followed are:

    Stay home unless and until you need medical care.
    Try and maintain distance with the people of your family and even pets when you are leaving your room.
    Always wear a face mask, even at your home whenever you are around people.
    Cover your nose and mouth while coughing and sneezing even when you are alone.
    Clean/disinfect/sanitise your hands frequently.
    Do not share any personal household item.
    Clean/disinfect/sanitise the surfaces every day.
    Keep a check on your symptoms.

8.    Taking care of seniors

Older adults may experience more difficulties as compared to younger adults while in self-isolation. If a senior is diagnosed with COVID, it is the responsibility of the entire family to make sure that they are well taken care of. Along with their personal needs, there can be certain medical needs that a senior will have. In such cases, seeking help from in-home senior care professionals can be quite helpful. Apart from it, staying in connection with them is important. Talking to them through phone calls, video calls, or if you can meet them while maintaining social distancing norms, the self-isolation period can become bearable for them. A little empathy can go a long way, and that’s what we believe in doing at Emoha where it is always #EldersFirst

Following these aforementioned tips while self-isolating is just to bring some respite to the person self-isolating. Not only will these keep them active and productive but will also help them recover effectively. Self-isolation can be a very tough period for anyone down with COVID. However, with a little planning and organizing, this time can become productive and cheerful.
