8 Home Remedies To Get Rid of Pimples in Elders

Acne is one of the most common skin diseases. It happens mostly in teenagers when they reach puberty. But a person can stay affected by it for a longer time. Acne, or pimples, can affect adults as well. The elderly are at as much risk of developing acne as all other adults. There are several home remedies for pimples in the elderly that a person can employ for treatment. Here are 10 home remedies for pimples in the elderly

1. Jojoba Oil

Extracted from the seeds of jojoba shrub, it one of the common pimple treatments at home. Not only does jojoba oil help treat acne in senior citizens, but it also speeds up the healing of the wounds, including the lesions left by acne after treatment. It is easily available online and you can use jojoba oil in two ways: a) Mix the oil in a cream or gel or a face mask and apply it to the acne-affected region of the face; b) Place a few drops of jojoba oil on a cotton pad and gently rub it over the acne lesions and sores.

2. Honey

Honey has been one of the most common ingredients to treat skin conditions for thousands of years. It contains various antioxidants that can clear the plugged pores and waste debris from the skin. It is also used by doctors in wound dressings to quicken the healing process because of honey’s anti-bacterial properties. You can use it by simply putting some drops on a cotton pad or a clean finger apply it on the spot of acne or use it in a face mask.

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial product and is also one of the best home remedies for pimples. It is a great moisturizer because it contains a lot of water. Therefore, it can be used when certain anti-acne products leave the skin dry. Aloe vera reduces acne and prevents a breakout in the future as well. Apply it on your acne-affected area by mixing it first in a gel/face. The aloe vera content in the gel should be at least 10%.

4. Green tea

The prime cause of acne in most people is an excessive quantity of sebum (natural body oils) and the lack of anti-oxidants. Green tea contains high concentrations of catechins, a group of polyphenol antioxidants. These antioxidants help the body in breaking down waste products and chemicals in the body. Green tea is easily available in most tea stores in tea leaves and tea bags. In various Punjabi households, it is also referred to as Savi Chai, the leaves of which can be bought from any local tea store.

5. Coconut Oil

Like most home remedies of acne, coconut also contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory compounds. These compounds destroy the most acne-causing bacteria and also reduce the swelling and redness caused by acne. It can also speed up the healing process. It is also one of the most cost-effective ways to treat acne in senior citizens since most Indian households use coconut oil.

6. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil also has natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial compounds. It can directly target and kill P. acnes, the bacteria that cause acne. It can also act as an agent to reduce the swelling and redness caused by pimples. Tea tree oil can be used by mixing a few oil drops in a cream or gel.

7. Buy a Face Cleanser

The elderly might be resistant to try a face cleanser but try to explain to them that a face cleanser can be an effective pimple treatment at home. Many of the commonly used are acidic. The acidity can be a reason for irritation of the skin, which can worsen the acne. Instead, buy the elderly a face cleaner with its pH around the pH of the skin, i.e. 5.5. It will reduce acne flare-ups and also allow the sores to heal.

8. Stay Hydrated

One of the natural remedies for acne is simply to stay hydrated. Staying hydrated makes it easier for the acne sores to heal and reduce the risk of future outbreaks. On the flip side, dry skin can easily become damaged or irritated. Always having water by your side to drink when you feel thirsty is a good course of action to always stay hydrated.
