Don’t Panic, Let’s Together Fight Coronavirus!

With the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19 or 2019-nCOV), fear, anxiety and panic are also on the rise.

As many as 111,645 cases of people affected from novel coronavirus have been reported so far, of which 42 are from India. 3,884 people have lost their lives due to this deadly virus.

A large family of viruses, Coronaviruses cause illness ranging from the common cold to Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), elders are more susceptible to respiratory illness, especially the ones with underlying health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or lung disease.

Also, with age, our immune response changes and becomes weaker in fighting against viruses. As a result, older adults are more vulnerable to the novel coronavirus.

While there is no specific treatment developed so far for the novel coronavirus, its symptoms can be treated. Rush to a doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Fever

In severe cases, it can cause pneumonia, SARS and kidney failure.

We don’t want our elders or anybody for that matter to get infected by the novel coronavirus. By following these precautions, one can lower the risk of catching the virus:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly (back of your hands, between the fingers, under the nails) with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Keep your hands away from your face. Avoid touching your mouth, eyes, and nose.
  • Avoid coming into contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid going to crowded places and stay home if you’re sick.
  • Make sure to disinfect and clean frequently touched surfaces and objects.
  • Use a sanitizer, in case soap and water are not available. The sanitizer should have at least 60% alcohol.
  • Seek medical advice without any delay if you are sick.

Captain Sanghamitra Chauhan, Regional Nursing Head at Emoha shares, “Our senior citizens are more vulnerable to coronavirus than the rest. But nothing to worry, we can still beat the odds with some simple easy to follow tips. Practice traditional Namaste in place of a handshake. Use a mask if you have cold/cough and make use of your elbow to cover nose and mouth. Coronavirus stays grounded and is not transmitted by air. So stay 2 meters away from someone who has flu symptoms.”

With hundreds of thousands of cases being reported worldwide and a substantial amount of casualties caused due to the novel coronavirus, it is bound to create fear among people, but you can relax with Emoha on your side.

The monitoring of vital parameters under the Emoha Assure Plan will keep you better prepared. Monthly home visits by a doctor will ensure you are keeping healthy. The 24*7 Emergency Response and daily check-in calls will shield you from any untoward incident.
